Tour Itinerary
- Day 1: Manali to Jobra (Drive) Trek to Chika
Distance / Duration: 16 km drive (1 hour) | 3 km trek (2 hours).
Altitude: 6,730 ft (2,050 m) to 10,100 ft (3,100 m).
Highlights: The journey begins with a scenic, winding drive from Manali up 42 hairpin bends to Jobra. From Jobra, you will embark on an easy, gradual ascent along the Rani Nallah stream through dense oak, pine, and maple forests to reach the scenic green meadow campsite of Chika
- Day 2: Chika to Balu Ka Ghera
Distance / Duration: 8.5 km trek | 5 to 6 hours.
Altitude: 10,100 ft (3,100 m) to 12,220 ft (3,600 m).
Highlights: You will follow the riverbed, stepping across rocky terrains and passing spectacular waterfalls. A major milestone today is safely crossing a freezing alpine stream on foot, where removing shoes helps maintain traction over slippery boulders. You will end the day camping at the sandy sub-alpine floor of Balu Ka Ghera (traditionally known as the “Bears’ Den”).
- Day 3: Balu Ka Ghera to Shea Goru via Hampta Pass
Distance / Duration: 7 km trek | 8 to 9 hours.
Altitude: 12,220 ft (3,600 m) Hampta Pass at 14,100 ft (4,298 m) 12,800 ft (3,900 m).
Highlights: This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the journey. Starting by 6:00 AM is essential to cross the pass before unstable afternoon weather or soft, risky snow sets in. You will navigate a steep climb across loose moraine, scree, and deep snow patches. At the summit of Hampta Pass, you will stand directly opposite the towering Mt. Indrasan and Deo Tibba peaks, looking back at the green valleys of Kullu and ahead into the desolate, brown-grey ridges of Lahaul. The descent to Shea Goru is steep, requiring steady footing.
- Day 4: Shea Goru to Chatru Excursion to Chandratal Lake
Distance / Duration: 5 to 7 km trek (4 hours) | 49 km drive to Chandratal and back (6 hours).
Altitude: 12,800 ft (3,900 m) down to 10,900 ft (3,320 m).
Highlights: An easy downhill descent along the Chandra River brings you to Chatru, the gateway into Spiti Valley. From Chatru, a rugged jeep drive takes you to the iconic Chandratal Lake (Moon Lake), a high-altitude water body that shifts colours under the sun. (Note: The Chandratal excursion is strictly subject to road conditions and seasonal weather clearing). You will return to Chatru for your final evening under the stars
- Day 5: Chatru to Manali
Distance / Duration: 64 km drive | 4 to 5 hours.
Altitude: 10,900 ft (3,320 m) back to 6,730 ft (2,050 m).
Highlights: Break down your tents one last time and board a vehicle heading back to Manali. The drive brings you back through the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel or the legendary loops of Rohtang Pass, dropping you back in town by late afternoon to wrap up your trek
