The Laka Glacier Trek is a beautiful, relatively short Himalayan adventure located right above Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. It acts as an extension of the highly famous Triund Trek, taking you past the crowded ridges of Triund and further up to the rugged, snowy snout of a glacier in the Dhauladhar range
Tour Itinerary
- Day 1: McLeod Ganj / Dharamkot to Triund Top
Distance: 8–9 km
Time: 4–5 hours
Altitude Gain: ~1,100 meters
The Route: Report at the base camp in Dharamkot or Bhagsu Nag by 9:00 AM. The trail ascends through dense forests of oak, deodar, and rhododendron. You will pass the Gallu Devi Temple, where the steepness briefly levels off before a final demanding climb up the ridge.
Highlight: Reaching Triund Top, a massive alpine meadow offering a panoramic view of the snow-capped Dhauladhar range on one side and the vast Kangra Valley on the other.
Stay: Overnight camping in tents at Triund Top under a starlit sky.
- Day 2: Triund Top to Laka Glacier and Back to Triund
Distance: 12 km round trip
Time: 6–7 hours round trip
The Route: After an early breakfast, you will leave your heavy bags at the camp and trek upwards. The terrain changes dramatically from green meadows to rugged glacial moraine. You will pass the famous Snowline Café, where you will begin to notice patches of snow and ice. Continue further to Laka Got, an open temporary shepherd encampment right at the snout of the glacier.
Highlight: Exploring the icy expanses of Laka Glacier. If you trek between March and May, the area is heavily blanketed in deep snow.
Stay: Head back down the same trail to overnight once more at Triund Top (or alternative nearby spots like Leta Village camp).
- Day 3: Triund Top to McLeod Ganj & Departure
Distance: 8–9 km
Time: 3–4 hours downhill
The Route: Wake up early to catch a golden sunrise hitting the Dhauladhar peaks. After breakfast, begin your steady descent back down. Most trekkers opt to take a slightly different return loop that passes by the scenic Bhagsu Waterfall and Bhagsu Nag Temple.
End Point: You will arrive back in McLeod Ganj by early afternoon (typically around 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM), giving you plenty of time to explore the local Tibetan markets or board an evening bus home
